today's high is going to be 69 degrees, and that's the high for the week. it looks like i'll be nursing chilbains scales cracked lips fissured cuticles and red nose for the rest of the year.
at the back of my mind is this ominous thought - if this is fall and we haven't even adjusted the clocks and the trees haven't shed yet, what more am i going to be able to extract from my closet when winter pops by?

You're lucky. Our highs have been in the low to mid 40s all this and most of last week. There was even the threat of snow last weekend. You'll understand that I find it difficult to symphatize with you. Say hi to your maggots for me, willya?

You're in for a treat this winter then :) I would advise you to familiarize yourself with the LLBean catalog. They might (or might not) keep you warm as a bug in a rug, but you'll at least look rustic while you're at it, by golly. They make clothes that last. And last. No kidding.
